About Us and When We Go!

We are a couple of simple people who have worked hard their entire lives so far with the only results being car payments, mortgage and so on.  It never seems to end.  Who are we working for was the final question we came up with together??  We just bought our first RV in spring 2016 and came to the realization that we love the lifestyle.  After doing a lot of searching and investigating we have realized that it is more than possible to do this but very attainable!

Originally we decided on spring 2020 to make the jump but the way life is and never knowing if you have a tomorrow we have pushed up our date to October 2017.  That’s right, we are heading out just after thanksgiving here in Canada.  Early spring this year the house goes up for sale and we will take the time until closing to fully downsize.

Then comes the fun!  We can’t just afford to drive around the rest of our lives (Though that would be nice)  so our plan is to join the many thousands of others and find workamping jobs in the summer somewhere in Canada then during the off season find a suitable location in the U.S. To volunteer for the winter at a state park.

To help offset our income loss we are hoping to document our journey on video through our You Tube channel  with our show titled “Taking Chances : An RV Revolution”.  Our first episode will air early in 2017 with an introduction to us and then our first practice journey out west.  Check out our channel and subscribe, thanks.

The both of us will also be writing full time blogs on our journey  and keeping up a facebook page and twitter account for the site. (Colleen will do that as I have never twitted yet!)  You will see the odd ad on our site as well, I apologize now for that but we are hoping that this too will help offset our bruised income.

I also have been a stock photographer for some time (on the side) and have been working on a site area where I will sell the images as royalty free images for magazines, web sites etc.  Check it out if you like  HERE

We hope you join us on our journey wherever it takes us.  Feel free to contact us with any suggestion for improvement.  If you are from a park our site and are looking for workampers, please feel free to contact us and we can send you our resume.  Let the journey begin!

Merry Christmas, New Year…New Plans

My daughter had this image made while she was in Japan.  It is an awesome caricature of my wife and I just after we made the purchase of our first RV.  Love it.

Nothing is going to make us happier than living in our RV and staying wherever the road takes us.  That is why we have accelerated our plans from 2020 to the fall of 2017!!

We have a lot to do in less than a year but will be ready.  We have done tones of research and are now going to start our downsizing aggressively come the new year.

For the next week or so, we will enjoy family and the Christmas season,  have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone.

Kevin

Campground Review : Herkimer

Very  nicely kept trailer park.  We stayed here for three nights in 2016 and were very impressed with the grounds and the staff.  Only a few miles down the road is the city of Herkimer where you can get your supplies.  As for KOA’s, this was one of the nicer one’s we have stayed at and will definitely go again.  The staff were very friendly and helpful, the grounds were kept beautifully and there were many activities on site to take part in whether you have kids or not.  Just down the road is the diamond mines where you can go and dig for your own lucky diamond.

Loved it here, check them out :  Herkimer KOA

Campground Review : Country Hills

Country Hills Campground, New York State

Could not say anything bad about this spot.  Beautiful grounds run by a husband and wife who take such good care of the property and their guests.  You could not beat the price for a one night stopover.  Great location, just a couple miles of the US 81.  Beautiful pond in the middle filled with giant trout (Catch and Release Only).  Call ahead, limited spots but well worth it for a beautiful, quiet rest.
